Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to some of our most commonly asked questions
mBER
mBER is an innovative app designed for seamless integration with sACN (Streaming Architecture for Control Networks) to control DMX lighting devices. It is specifically optimized for use in theatrical, production, and live event settings.
mBER is ideal for lighting designers, technicians, and anyone working in environments that require precise DMX lighting control. It is also well-suited for theatrical events requiring a phone or computer as part of the set design, as well as art installations and immersive experiences. Additionally, it serves as a convenient tool for testing sACN networks, making it a powerful resource in your pocket.
mBER listens for sACN data on a specified universe and DMX address. It processes the received data to adjust brightness and RGB values, allowing real-time lighting control on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
The mBER Fixture feature turns your iPhone, iPad, or Mac into a controllable DMX lighting device. It can display colors and adjust brightness based on DMX values sent over sACN.
You can set the Universe (1-63999) and DMX Address (1-512) to match your lighting setup. These settings persist across app launches for convenience.
mBER supports the sACN (E1.31) protocol, a widely used standard for DMX over IP.
Yes, as long as the controller supports sACN and your network configuration allows multicast traffic.
While mBER focuses on single-universe operation for its core feature, you can manually configure the app to listen to any single universe within the supported range (1-63999).
We recommend using a commercial-grade router (if possible) that is designated for the lighting system, especially in a production environment.
1. Patch your iPhone, iPad, or Mac as a generic IRGB device in your lighting control software.
2. Connect your device to the production Wi-Fi network (the same network as your lighting control board or sACN device).
3. Assign the Universe and DMX Address in mBER to match the values in your lighting control software.
4. Enable the toggle to ‘ON’. 5. Watch the magic unfold.
mBER requires a compatible iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Access to a network with sACN-enabled devices. A lighting control console or other hardware/software capable of sending sACN data.
Ensure that your device and lighting controller are on the same Wi-Fi network. Please Note: Multicast support is required for sACN communication.
Verify that your device is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network. Check that the Universe and DMX Address settings in mBER match the settings in your lighting controller. Ensure that your lighting controller is broadcasting sACN data. Confirm that your device is not using a VPN. Verify that multicasting is enabled on your router.
Ensure the DMX addresses for Red, Green, and Blue channels are consecutive and are aligned in your console with the base address you set in the mBER app.
You can reset the Universe and DMX Address fields to their defaults by navigating to the settings page and re-entering the desired values.
